InventionHome® Inventor Spotlight: Auto Cord Extender (A.C.E.)

MILLSTONE, NJ, UNITED STATES, October 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The idea for the Auto Cord Extender, or A.C.E., came from a familiar challenge for anyone who operates a vehicle in a cold climate: keeping engine components warm without dealing with a loose extension cord every time. Dylen W. of Millstone, NJ envisioned taking the basic concept of a retractable extension cord reel and adapting it specifically for installation inside a vehicle's engine compartment. Rather than storing and connecting a separate cord each winter, the A.C.E. keeps the cord permanently attached and ready to use.

The patent-pending A.C.E. is designed to provide electrical access for block heaters, oil pan heaters, battery warmers, and similar equipment. The cord can be pulled from its housing and connected to a nearby electrical outlet, then retracted into the unit when the vehicle is ready to go. A bright red LED on the plug provides a visible reminder when the system is connected to power, while the planned safety mechanism is intended to prevent the cord from being accidentally dragged down the road if the vehicle is driven away while still connected.

The invention is designed for a wide range of users who operate vehicles and equipment in cold weather, including truck drivers, farmers, fleet operators, and commercial and industrial equipment operators. Its multiple internal outlets can also allow more than one heater or warming device to be connected while using a single cord to reach the external power source., The A.C.E. also eliminates the need to repeatedly locate, store, or replace a separate extension cord by keeping the cord attached to the vehicle.

“When I first developed the concept, I was genuinely surprised no one had already patented it,” said Dylen.

For Dylen, that discovery provided additional motivation to pursue the idea. He hopes the A.C.E. can make winter preparation more convenient while addressing the safety concerns that can arise when a vehicle is accidentally driven away while still plugged in by adapting a familiar cord-reel concept to a specific problem faced by vehicles and equipment in cold climates.
