Tesla’s European EV Sales Plunge
Billionaire Elon Musk’s EV company sold 150,504 vehicles in the EU last year, the report revealed, a steep fall from 242,436 units in 2024.
The company’s market share also contracted, falling to 1.4% in 2025 from 2.3% in 2024.
In December 2025 alone, Tesla’s sales in the EU plummeted 31.9% year-on-year, totaling 21,485 vehicles.
Looking at a broader European context—including the EU, the European Free Trade Association, and the UK—Tesla’s December sales dropped 20.2%, while its total annual sales in 2025 fell by 26.9%.
Despite Tesla’s decline, overall battery electric vehicle sales in the EU surged 29.9%, reaching 1.88 million units last year.
Meanwhile, Chinese automaker BYD, a key rival of Tesla, saw its EU deliveries jump 227.8% year-on-year to 128,827 vehicles, with its market share rising to 1.2% from 0.4% the previous year.
Tesla’s weakening performance in Europe has been attributed to a combination of Elon Musk’s controversial political positions, his involvement in European political matters, and intensifying competition from Chinese EV brands.
