Commissioners, Mayor Carstarphen, Congressman Norcross celebrate $2.5 million EPA award to continue cleanup at Yaffa site

The Board of Commissioners joined local, state, and federal officials on Thursday to celebrate $2.5 million in grant funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support cleanup activities at the former S. Yaffa & Sons facility, a property with a history of automotive repair and illegal dumping. The grant will also support community engagement efforts.

“This funding from the EPA is an important investment in the continued cleanup and revitalization of the former Yaffa site,” said Commissioner Jeffrey Nash. “While residents may already see the progress that’s been made, specifically the removal of the four-story dirt pile, there is still important work ahead. This support will help the city to continue addressing the environmental impacts, while lifting up the Bergen Square neighborhood through community engagement.”
